And it can be seen almost everywhere one looks.
Fowler in his 2nd Ram year and a full one, at that.
Matthews at one edge replacing Ebu.
A healthy Brockers and in a contract year.
Kiser as a better run defender than Barron ever was.
Gaines should be a better 2 down defender than last year’s “regular season” Suh.
Healthy Talib?
Peters finally used properly to suit his talents.
Weddle is a huge upgrade over Joyner.
Better depth in Long and Rapp.
Remember how well the Ram D was performing late last year? Well, now it looks even more able, at least on paper.
And if that’s true, the Ram O will benefit from more possessions and enjoy bigger leads which completely will open McVay’s entire playbook. Synergy in action, y’all!
Some responses.
* I see why people are optimistic about Fowler. I am completely neutral. I want to see it. More often than not it takes pass rushers a year or 2 or even 3 to step up. So maybe in the following mix they really do have an at least 8-sack guy: Fowler, Obo, Ebukam, Fox, one of the UDFAs.
* Matthews brings savvy but is he worth more than 4-5 sacks?
* I too assume Brockers was not playing healthy last year. That could mean he is back to 2017 form, when he was pretty good at DE.
* Kiser replaces Littleton, and Littleton replaces Barron. Kiser ought to be a better run defender than Littleton was in the same spot.
* I think you could be right about Gaines, and meanwhile Joseph-Day is apparently making a little noise too. Maybe they have 2 NTs.
* Weddle didn't do anything in 2018 but then like Matthews he brings savvy. Joyner was miscast in 2018--he was a great nickel safety mixing it up underneath but he was not a good deep free safety. Joyner got a free agent pay day and my bet is it wasn't to play deep free safety.
* The secondary could be one of the Rams best in a long time. Another year to make it work with Peters, Talib and Johnson already good, and 3 great additions in Weddle, Rapp, and Long.
