You have young guys who have to develop and you want guys that can play all the offensive line positions.
The first step is to get these guys ready to contribute and then figure out who fits best at which position.
We don't need to figure out until probably next season who is going to take over for Whit but at least we have 3 or 4 potential options on the team right now that can be evaluated to see which one is best suited for the LT position and who is best suited for OG. The idea of cross training is great but if you are to be successful with that you need to draft OT types who can play OG skills.
The Rams will have a backup LT come game time in the regular season and that will give us a hint of where they are in their current thinking of the eventual replacement for Whit. At this point it is really too early to get a handle on the long term plan and the Rams themselves need to get data from OTA and training camp to better understand what they actually have. Even with the 2nd year guys we have 5 really young Offensive linemen that are on a huge learning curve so we will just have to see how things develop.
