Absolutely agree with your statement on oline play. This is another reason why Goff needs plays that allow him to release the ball before the rush can get home. Brady and Brees routinely deliver the throw in under 2.5 seconds. With the offense Goff is running he is not afforded that luxury but he has the benefit of play action. But like never seeing 3rd down is the best way to not fail to convert on third down; not giving the rush enough time to affect your QB is the best way to minimize oline issues.
Play action is how McVay has been handling this during the season. But the Patriots will ignore our play action and do the smart thing and not allow Cooks and Woods to destroy them crossing the middle of the field.
I don't think the Rams will ever field a smarter more cohesive oline than they did in the Super Bowl last year. And the Patriots were very successful in manufacturing a pass rush with games and stunts. I am not optimistic we can change that reality.
Taking what the defense will give is something he was battling the second half of the season at times. Someone on YouTube posted a video breakdown of how he was forcing throws when there were open outlets available. I suppose it's understandable when a QB has been living on big plays and scoring a lot of points to not want to take little bites but that is where the Rams and Goff are at right now IMO.
Teams are going to take away the big plays and force Goff to surgically and methodically and consistently move the ball. He's been hit and miss in that regard. He has shown that he's capable of it, just not shown that he's always willing.
If I recall that was the Chicago game. Meanwhile as I just showed in another post, they used the shorter passing game in the first half against the Eagles to good effect.
