I also think the Rams poor offensive performances in big games are in part due to a lack of improvisational skill. With improvisational skill defined as isolation plays or plays where the wrs/qb are adjusting after the defense show their hand.
For example, the Saints iso Kamara and the Patriots iso Edelman and Gronk. At some point McVay needs to empower Goff by providing him the opportunity to his these isolation plays. Put Cooks or Everrett solo and wide to the field side. Let the players make plays and simplify the game for Goff. This gives Goff the opportunity to maximize what he is good at--accurate throws delivered on time and minimize the bad mentally processing complex coverages.
I am hopeful that Henderson is a move in this direction. Sometimes you got to let good players make plays. The system is strong and we can always go back to that but the system is known. McVay either needs to implement more varied route combinations, have Goff improve markedly, start running isos, or a combination of the above.
Goff isnt top 10 but for a young QB I think he is devloping nicely. He has seen the toughest the NFL can throw at him. But the young, inexperienced excuses end now. His performances are his from this point out. Goff will be the difference between us being 10-6 and winning divisions only or winning Conference Championships and Super Bowls. I don't see how our defense can substantially improve off of their performance in the playoffs and bowl last year.
