Absolutely agree with your statement on oline play. This is another reason why Goff needs plays that allow him to release the ball before the rush can get home. Brady and Brees routinely deliver the throw in under 2.5 seconds. With the offense Goff is running he is not afforded that luxury but he has the benefit of play action. But like never seeing 3rd down is the best way to not fail to convert on third down; not giving the rush enough time to affect your QB is the best way to minimize oline issues.
Play action is how McVay has been handling this during the season. But the Patriots will ignore our play action and do the smart thing and not allow Cooks and Woods to destroy them crossing the middle of the field.
I don't think the Rams will ever field a smarter more cohesive oline than they did in the Super Bowl last year. And the Patriots were very successful in manufacturing a pass rush with games and stunts. I am not optimistic we can change that reality.
Well they could field a smart cohesive line that also doesn't have the physical limitations Sullivan and Blythe did. The OL got attacked and overpowered. Sullivan was old, basically, and Blythe doesn't have the tools you need to win at that kind of game.
I agree completely about the short/quick passing game. QB's best friend. Interestingly they did that a bit against the Eagles. In the first half of that game, Goff was 16 of 22, and threw several passes in the shorter range--that's completions of 6, 6, 4, 9, 7, 4, 10, 7, 10, 5, & 8 yards. So they can do it when they have a mind to do it.
