to be honest, i really dont understand your point. are you saying you dont assign a monetary value to a players worth? thats fine, its not your job. but im fairly certain all nfl teams do. moreover, i agree (i think) that its ok to overpay one player if you underpay another. players like ad, tg, and bc. but imo and i could be wrong but hill is not a player you want to overpay. unless he demonstrates appreciable improvement over 2018 ill pay hatfield who demonstrated flashes in 2017 of being a decent player $645 to play the 5th cb role.

or it was just insurance against picking up a quality cb in the draft. i believe they did that in long. long imo will be the #4 cb. do you want to pay the #5 2 million?
If he's the best CB of the remaining ones, sure. I tend not to be so hung up about contracts that way. In fact I tend to avoid those discussions---I only dive into cap stuff when it involves policies and math with the big contract guys. The Rams are good enough at the cap so that if a guy here gets 2 M it's because it's balanced somewhere else with keeping someone else for less. So if Hill wins the job, I will simply not be someone who complains about 2 M all season. I don't think the cap works that way. I think it works through balancing choices all over the roster. So I don't pick on a guy cause of a contract that way.
