Had a short convo with my father today. As we talked it through and realized that if Whit retires and the Rams decide they are over-paying Brockers after this year, it's like a $26M cap savings if both are gone next year. (if Whit plays at a high level next year and wants to come back... I'd pay him tho.)
Assuming the Rams really believe that Noteboom is either a starting quality LT or LG for next year and if the Rams believe they can find EITHER a DE or IDL to replace Brockers next year, then early OL / DL just makes a lot of sense.
The cap savings basically covers Goff's contract and leaves the Rams with a ton of money next year to also look at some higher level FA in positions of need.
I understand the BPA thing... But I think for the Rams, PON is going to be critical in order to stay SB contenders and deal with the salary cap for the next few years.
