Maybe we might be overthinking this?
I mean, Rams have a loaded roster with few holes. Perhaps they’re planning on getting a BPA/starter with their first pick, pure and simple?
And picking bpa’s thereafter with an eye for immediate depth this year and potential starters in their 2nd year?
IOW, our picks this year will not really be a reflection on current projected starters so much, but simply taking gems that have fallen.
It would help a lot if at least a couple of the following 2018 draft picks would come through (alphabetical order):
Franklin-Myers, at least in rotation. The key to this D becoming top 10 is a strong DL. If F-M becomes at least a good rotation player, that helps.
Joseph-Day. Whether they take a Nose-T high, or move Brockers there, all I can say is rotation rotation rotation.
Kiser. If he can become a solid 2-down MIKE, that helps everything else.
Obo. I don't have the same optimism about him many do.
It is probably asking way too much to have all 4 come through.
If it isn't at least 2 then it was a weak Rams draft on defense.
Let's say a couple of those guys come through. Then we are still talking about some important draft needs:
CB
DL
OLB
Safety
(Weddle will not be there forever)If only 1 or none of the 2018 picks come through, that's a longer list and a harder row to hoe.
