I agree that I think he will be gone. I think the media undervalues the coverage players. Most media predict at least one of Murphy, Greedy Williams, or Baker go in the second--I dont see that happening. Throw in Chauncey, Thornhill, Bunting (Central Mich), Adderly, and Abram and I think we see 8 DBs in the first round. Could easily see Layne (Mi St) and Love (ND) making the first round as well. I'd be ok with almost any of those players for the Rams in the first.
Take Lawrence (Clemson) for example--he plays one position. And likely 2 downs only but I will see 2.5 optimistically. One of the slot coverage players gives you a slot corner, a safety, an outside lb, a blitzer, special teams,.... So much more value to the team with the coverage players imo. Also, consider if you really hit on the guy--would you rather have a HOF CB/S or a HOF NT? I lean towards corner but watching Suh in the playoffs makes me doubt myself.
I realistically think 2 S and 2 CBs go round 1. Byron Murphy (Pitt at the latest) and Greedy Williams (you just cannot teach that size, length athleticism) at CB and Adderley and CGJ at S.
Baker is a bit undersized and has some bonehead to him.
Thornhill was good and tested out of the gym, but he doesn't have the range CGJ does. (Alyo was on him a year ago btw)
Bunting is a good CB with great physical traits, I just am not as huge a fan of his effort. (at least the 2 games I saw)
Abram - 3 to 4 years ago he is a no brainer 1st rounder, with the new rules he is a tweener LBer SS with limited range.
Layne is too raw to see the 1st round, Love is just a football player. Undervalued and underappreciated. He will not go in the 1st.
I'd take a HoF OL followed by a HoF S then CB and lastly DT. Then again I'd take a HoF LBer all day. But I might be biased.
