Smart coaches are going to immediately be looking at this rule as a way of manufacturing big pass plays on key downs. And we will see more and more of first downs by flag in big situations. It will slow down the game and make it more boring and more about the men in stripes and less about the players in uniforms.
I don't like it.
Hell coaches are already teaching receivers to come back toward the qb on long pass plays that are unlikely to be completed - knowing that DBs arent going to be able to stop fast enough to avoid contact and it will look like DPI. If I were a WR coach I would be planning already how to get more first downs by flag.
