Just finished his 5th year as an "offensive play caller".....and if he is this offensive Guru as some here or in the media make him out to be, it shouldn't matter how many years he's been in charge of an offense.
Which one is it? The "oh man, McVay has only been a HC for two years and he is soooo smart he is way ahead of defenses / he's a "genius" when the Rams blow people out or "Dude is only 32-33 years old and is only in his second year, he'll get better" when the offense scores three points in the biggest game of the year?
Odds are, a veteran defensive coach with the qualifications of a Bellichick is going to outcoach a young second year head coach. I don't think there's any way to finesse or rationalize that. I am at least confident that McVay does not look at it that way. I think he's the real thing, so I doubt he would make up excuses, deflect blame, hide his head in the sand, or do anything besides honestly confront the fact that he still has some growing to do if he wants to compete with the best.
