With Whitworth only on the books for 2019 the Rams could retain Saffold while paying out most of a 3-year deal in 2020 and 2021. Just depends on what both sides consider a fair deal. I really don't think he necessarily just wants to go to the highest bidder. His perspective having been on some pretty bad Rams teams and now the 2017 and 2018 teams probably affects what he wants to do as he approaches age 31 and the latter part of his career. The Rams cannot low-ball him and I don't think they will. But would Saffold turn down, say, $33M over 3 years vs. $40M elsewhere? I doubt it. I'll bet he'd love to be there for the new stadium opening...
