I know everyone is gaga for "Wheelin & Dealin" Les Snead, but Im kinda torn on the deals at this point.
Cooks Trade - Trading a #1 pick for Cooks. Cooks had a good year. We are paying him as a top WR... and Im not sure he is in that league. A top WR pulls in those two tds in the Superbowl right? Rams could have kept pick and drafted Calvin Ridley who does not have same deep speed....kind of like Woods so i understand the need for a take the top off the D type player instead of polished route runner.
Marcus Peters trade - We gave up a #2nd a a #4th for Peters and a 6th. Peters had a bad year. He played seemingly well in the playoffs and Superbowl, but got burned repeatedly throughout the season, particularly when Talib was hurt.
Talib for a 5th - This was a win. Talib played very well and the D missed him when he was injured. He also is a team leader. So far his age has not caught up with him.
Fowler for a 3rd - I think this trade will be measured depending on if we resign him or he was an expensive rental. He made his presence felt in the playoffs and hope he returns for less than $10 mill per year.
so, a mixed bag in my humble opinion. The Rams casual nature towards draft picks is fine and good if we win the SB, but losing out on the cheap talent that rookies bring will sooner or later put us in salary cap hell i would think. The Rams have been very smart about taking advantage of supplemental picks, and that has seemingly not been ignored when making some of these deals.
go rams.
I remain a huge Snead fan. No, he’s not perfect, but he’s pretty danged good. Especially in tandem with McVay.
Cooks trade was a great trade. Known top producing WR still young? Even 1st round picks only average approx 50% success rate. And it was a rather late 1st rounder, at that. No brainer.
Peters trade is looking iffy. But mostly because Wade was putting a square peg in a round hole for half the season. MP’s weakness in Wade’s preferred man D should have been considered before approving the trade, so I mostly blame Wade here. But getting an experienced young Pro Bowl CB for 2 years for around $10 million combined for merely a 2nd and a 4th? That seems like a bargain. Most 2nd rounders are around 30% success rate, aren’t they?
Talib for 2 more years for a 5th? That’s highway robbery, man.
Fowler for a 3rd only to become a rental? Well, if he extends, as many expect, that balances the scales and then some. Another thing. Without Fowler, we don’t get to the SB. Edge was an area of desperate need and Snead got the best available player at the 11th hour. Hard to criticize, frankly.
And we shouldn’t ignore Snead’s other recent picks, trades, and signings.

I think all of the above were within the last 2 years.
Snead has transformed the Ram roster to one of the most talented in the entire league, maybe even THE most talented.
Isn’t that what the best GM’s are all trying to do?
Snead is worth his weight in gold, IMO.
