Re: I guess i'm the lone Goff skeptic....

February 12, 2019 01:16PM
youre clealry not the only goff skeptic but youre the only goff skeptic that i know of that characterized the offense as a "juggernaut." And while putting up by your own admission "big numbers" doesnt make goff "great" it does make him "good enough" to put up "big numbers" despite possessing all of the deficiencies you noted.

also, i dont think anyone would argue that developing an oline for any qb is a good idea, but it does seems like imo to be a grievous error in judgement to move forward with a qb who in your words "needs max protection...cannot be expected to make things happen on his own.....is easily flustered, hurries throws, fumbles, or just throws it up for grabs." thus i was surprised to hear you favor of drafting oline over a new qb. nevertheless, if i somehow mischaracterized your position i apologize.

"go rams!"

If I am the only one questioning Goff, why are all the experts basically balking at the idea of rams extending Goff before necessary? Everyone who looks at the situation objectively understands Goff's shortcomings.

Now, to address your silly points:

1. 1. how was this team EVER an "offensive juggernaut"? it seems to me difficult for a juggernaut of an offense to be guided by average qb.

There is no denying the Rams put up big offensive numbers last year. Does that mean Jared Goff is great? Might it have more to do with a terrific RB and an innovative Coach that kept defenses off balance?

2. an olineman will be of little use if the qb is so average. thus i would think you would be advocating for the rams to take a qb. if not at 1, at least with a high pick in order to replace goff when he inevitably falters.

If we have learned anything from this season, Goff needs max protection. He cannot be expected to make things happen on his own. When pressured (see Chicago, Philly, NE), he is easily flustered, hurries throws, fumbles, or just throws it up for grabs. Plus, we need to have the running game working so we dont have to rely on our shaky QB. A strong O line helps establish the run. So yeah, I think O Line is the way to go. Having said that, sure if a QB is there at #31 that McVay likes, I would love to grab him, and have him starting in 2021 on a rookie deal, makes perfect sense to me.
