A number of wild card teams have won the Super Bowl because they got hot in December.
You don't have to buy it...but it's on the shelf for everyone to see.
I think it was 2006 that the St Louis Cardinals got hot at the end of the season and ended up as a wild card team in the playoffs and eventually won the World Series. There was lots of grumbling that the Cardinals weren't the best team in baseball and had no business in the playoffs, blah, blah, blah. I'll never forget Albert Pujols' response. He said: "We were the best team when it counted."
The same is true across all sports.
