My biggest gripe about the Tavon situation was the danged extension.

Not Tavon’s fault, I know. Who wouldn’t take such money, if offered?

The original pick (and trade up to even get it) was one thing. Blown picks happen on every team. But to compound that error(s) by extending him? C’mon...

I cringe every time I recall the scene in episode 4 of Hard Knocks where Tavon is signing his $42 million extension contract and Jeff Fisher walks in to shake his hand and give him a big hug and Fisher says, "This is so cool. I'm happy for you. You've earned it!" I can't blame Tavon for taking it. Heck, if you offered it to me, I'd take it, too. But that was way more money than he deserved for what the team got from him in return, IMO. I have a problem with the "you earned it" part.

Except JF in that moment and you are looking at it from different angles.

You saw a guy who for whatever reason (and it wasn't entirely him) wasn't productive AFTER that.

He saw a guy who earned a contract in 2016 (and not a big one for a receiver either, even then) because in 2015 he had 104 offensive touches and 9 offensive TDs.

That's how contracts ARE earned. They're based on performance to date.

Your complaint is that you didn't think he lived up to it. Well if it's any consolation, he didn't get all of it. Dallas gave him 3 M in 2018, in what was originally the 3rd year of the deal you don't like.
