And Its not that I think Garoppolo is elite but rather I see him like Goff... a really good skill set that should be fantastic in Shanahan offense.
I’m not ready to call either JG or Goff elite... maybe Goff can get back to form in the playoffs. I have been very disappointed in his performance the last month as you know.
I am tempering my expectations

He doesn’t like the defense and says they play soft. Also said McVay shows his youth and gets away from Gurley and has put too much on Goff
Prior to that he loved the Rams. Blathered all over them. Said they would dominate the NFC West for 10 years
Now he says the 49ers will. The guy loves to talk. So what.
I will tell you all this just like I told you at this time last year that the Hawks only needed to find a run game to go with Wilson and that the defense wouldn’t be as strong but with a run game and Wilson and Carrol they wouldn’t be down long. Well I’m telling you right now the 49ers will be SB contenders next year
There are too many savvy fans on this site not to see it coming. That team was destroyed by injuries this year. They have a Qb every bit as good as Goff (yes) and their coach is outstanding. They only need to get healthy and they will be right there.
The Hawks and 49ers will be right there challenging for the SB and my fear is if the Rams don’t get it done this year they will fall behind both of those teams next year
Sorry but that’s what I see as the Rams will be in total rebuild mode defensively.
The NFC West will be a three team race in 2019.
Excellent post, Speed.
I agree that the 49ers will be a legit threat for the Rams next year. Seahawks, too, for that matter.
But I’m not as high on Garoppolo as you are. I certainly don’t consider him Goff’s equal. Lynch would do well to not spend premium picks on risky personalities, too. But if Lynch picks wisely this next draft then, yeah, I see the 49ers right back in the thick of things.
Rams must retool their D in one offseason and they might just have to replace their DC in the process. This could well be a 3-way race to the finish for the division in ‘19.
