Allow me to rephrase.

Player safety and future health is important, not a joke.

Leading with the helmet was made a penalty to address the safety and health of players. I think that's fine.

IMO, they started out with the intention of calling it, but found that this would slow down the game too much, so they've decided to almost always ignore it.
Except when they don't.

When they do call it, it becomes a very arbitrary and random enforcement that will do nothing to change the way tackles are being made.
They call it against defensive players pretty much exclusively, when it is often an offensive player who use their helmet.

It begins to look then, as if the purpose of the rule is for the NFL to SAY that they have a rule, rather than to actually make the game safer.
I don't share your opinion that they are doing it "smartly".

If you're going to have a rule, enforce it. Or don't have it.

Otherwise, it's a joke. Not a haha joke. Just a travesty.
