If you run at 5.0 yards per carry, you will have a better chance of getting more first downs which leads to more runs than when you run at 2.5 yards per carry.
My Gut is this. The Bears were jacked up against the Rams and the offensive line didn't rise to the challenge and energy the Bears defense brought on this particular game. It could be the Rams offensive line was beat up a little. I don't know. I do know math though and 2.5 yards isn't going to get you many first downs.
