Cowherd is right in the sense that teams see McVay's success and want the same results. Consequently, coaches will be fired.
Teams are looking for the innovative, energetic coach who will bring them up to date with the modern offensive game. And quickly.
You keep bringing up all of these old coaches from 20-50 years back which misses one of the main points of Cowherd and the article: In this modern NFL, the climate has changed so the norm of 3-4 year turnarounds 20 years ago aren't relevant anymore.
How do w e know THAT exactly? Coaches are fired every year. For a multitude of reasons. Naturally as Rams fans we think the planets revolve around our coach, and I am sure he is well-regarded, but they are just as likely to draw the important lessons from Pederson, Nagy, and Reich. And in the future, when he gets a team, Shanahan. Or from Carroll, who took a peak team and started over and is doing well with it. Or from Reid and Payton, who bring veteran savvy to the table and in the new NFL environment, are making it work. Or from Belichick, who never really got his first team off the ground and was fired, and comes from a defensive background, and is still very much in the hunt.
We like to believe the Rams are the only stars that twinkle in the sky because we're Rams fans. What would a more objective observer say about why coaches are fired and what hiring trends exist in the league.
For that matter McCarthy himself is likely to get a job. If he lands in the right place, do you want to bet against him winning?
Plus, what are the odds there is another McVay? Someone that young and that brilliant and that grounded with that much wisdom beyond his years? And if we know that, why wouldn't battle-tested professional NFL execs know it?

It's not just about McVay. It's about a McVay type. Kind of thought that was clear.
Cowherd and the article writer are more objective observers than Rams fans and we see what they're saying about firing and hiring trends in the league.
When we start getting several media voices saying the same thing, at that point maybe we should all admit they're right.
McCarthy probably will land a job soon but I'm not convinced that he's innovative enough to do what McVay, Pederson, Nagy and Reich are doing. It sounds like GB let him go because they don't think he is either.
I agree with you on the futility of another team getting lucky with the next McVay. I believe he's rare. That won't stop other teams from trying though and that's what these media voices are saying.
