Gurley should have run it in...
It would give us that 2 TD lead with 2:30ish left.
Instead...he sat on it and scored at 1:54.
If you don't deserve to win a game because you can't take it in from the one...I would say you don't deserve to win a game or are a championship team if you can't hold a 14 lead with 2:30 left in the game.
The snap could have been fumbled...a player could have been hurt...
While it's not the end of the world, I feel that it was the wrong move by Gurley...this time I think he overthought the moment.
It made the Lions use up their time outs and 40 seconds is a lifetime, especially with a guy like Stafford. I know he doesn't have great weapons around him but he's a good QB with great arm talent.
These "woulda, coulda" scenarios can be played the other way too. If Gurley scores on that play, leaving 2.5 minutes left, the Lions coulda went down and scored quickly. Then they woulda kicked an onside kick, and coulda recovered it, then coulda gone down and scored again to tie it up.
None of these things happened. The Rams won...ugly...but won nonetheless. IMO, it was smart by Gurley. From the one, we were gonna score anyway but it was better to run as much clock off as we could. The end result was we scored but left Detroit with much less time to work with. Smart.
