I think Wade's defense is supposed to put immediate pressure on the QB and force the ball out quickly. Having the CBS playing press coverage dovetails nicely in that scheme. I'm not sure having Peters playing 10 yards off his guy is a good plan if the idea is to force a quick pass. Peters' guy will always be the hot read (although perhaps this would prevent another 72 yard TD).
Not hard to imagine a 3rd'n'7, 3rd'n'8 situation where playing off and closing fast on a 5-yd quick hitter would be fine. But then Peters needs to be able to stop the WR in his tracks and it seems like he's missed a lot of tackles.
Can't Cover + Can't Tackle = Major Problems. Which is what we've seen.
