It's a money dump....they like what they see in Chubb.
Get what you can.
After 6 games, Browns GM John Dorsey has probably seen enough of his 2018 Browns to know they're a mild long shot to be 2018 playoff contender.
The obvious reason to trade his 28 year old current leading rusher (ranked #11 with 114 att, 382 yds, 3.4 ypc 5 td's) RB is because they don't vision him around when Baker and the offense take the next step in 2019, 2020 etc.
Carlos Hyde signed a 3 year, $15,250,000 contract with the Cleveland Browns, including a $3,500,000 signing bonus, $8,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $5,083,333. In 2018,
Hyde will earn a base salary of $970,588 and a roster bonus of $275,000, while carrying a cap hit of $1,245,588 and a dead cap value of $970,588.
Hyde's contract value wasn't horrible but his 3.4 YPC and because his best years will probably be behind him when Baker and the offense reach their peak, this was crafty move by Dorsey.
As you said, a money dump, Chubb is younger with more upside and that Hyde's not in their long term RB plans.
This isn't a knock on Hyde because he's been having a good season.
