I don't agree that this is a throwaway game that we don't really need to win.

This is probably more important to our ultimate success this year than any single game against the Hawks, Cards, or 49ers.

Just to be clear, Sag. I didn’t mean to even imply that this was not an important game or not a game that we should really want to win. Both things are obvious. And I never even hinted that it was a “throwaway” game.

But it’s not a “must win” game, either. Certainly not in the first quarter of the season.

My definition of a “must win” game is a game that must be won to qualify for the playoffs or qualify for HFA during the playoffs, or a playoff game itself. This 4th game that we enter as an undefeated team doesn’t meet any of those 3 criteria.

We are gonna win our division, almost certainly.

We would still be ahead of the Vikings in tiebreaker even if we lose to them here.

I see no NFC team with a better shot at HFA even if we suffer a loss to the Vikings.

We are favored to beat the Vikings even without Peters and Talib, so nobody’s conceding this game at all.

The win over the Vikings is a “want”, but not nearly a “need” at this point.
