He is replaceable. I question that one. In the long run there are only so many top contracts they can pay for, so you want the list to be a selective one. So there are different votes on Hav. I doubt there's much "aha who was right" capital in Hav. He will always be solid but how much do you pay for solid?

I accept the premise that RTs are more easily replaced than some other positions. But I believe the question is one of value and continuity. If Hav proves to be a top 5 RT then there is a reasonable argument that it was prudent to resign him. I look to the Pats on how they address their cap. Belichick is not one to extend players on their 2nd contracts. That’s a big reason they traded Cooks and Chandler Jones. They are very selective on who they extend. They extended their RT, even though RTs are more easily replaced.

I don't think it's so much that RTs are more easily replaced over other positions, I just feel that Hav the player specifically wouldn't be too difficult to replace. I think solid is a good description for him and I'm skeptical that paying 2nd contract money for solid is a good idea.

But I will say this, so far the Rams current brass have been doing an admirable job overall on extensions and salary cap management. I think Ogletree was a misstep but everything else has been very good. So I will give them the benefit of the doubt on Hav. I thought the smarter play would have been to let him go, draft an OT in the 2019 draft, and let Noteboom and the new OT fight it out for who gets LT/RT.
