It's their youngest, most inexperienced unit and it's going to take some time for Phillips to get the right players into the right situations and get them the experience they need. Being a step slow, in my opinion, is not about a lack of athleticism or speed but in play recognition and experience. Littleton, Wilson, etc all made some plays but also left more to be desired. They need time. Reality is that unit is largely built for speed and pursuit and against Oakland they faced a very big, physical unit that as the announcers said came in with the strategy of having a street fight.
I thought Easley was pretty effective at OLB. Ebukam had several TFL. Lawler, Kiser, and (possibly later) Okoronkwo need time to develop and carve out roles- just like Ebukam a year ago.
This unit will get targeted week after week, no doubt. Phillips and Co. know this.
