I'm guessing we're hitting $40 million for elite QBs.
I'll make a 2 years in advance statement...Goff gets paid below Rodgers current money when he extends. In fact, I would think the franchise tag average value would be about right.
It will be interesting to see how much Goff gets credit, vs. McVay, vs. Gurley vs. the defense. I don't think he gets tip-top money.
Honestly,. if you look at the qb market, the veterans on 3rd and 4th contracts are one thing, the 2nd contract guys are another. No 2nd contract guy will be compared to Rodgers unless he is flat out CLEARLY exceptional. And besides, 3rd and 4th + etc. contracts are much more variable. So Rodgers got more than Ryan with a 2018 contract but Brees got just 25 M in 2018.
The 2nd contract money will just keep on inflating in its own way.
Wilson got 22 M in 2015, Carr got 25 M in 2017, Cousins got 28 M in 2018. That;s around a 12-14% increase each year though I bet no one is that strict about it or that those exact numbers are written in stone. It's just more or less. So then it's a matter of what that increase will be by 2020.
2019 won't really tell us because no one coming up then meets the definition of a continuing starter and young franchise qb type up for contract 2. Then, bang, in 2020 it will be Wentz and Goff though technically both will be signing extensions that start in 2021.
LOTS of 3rd, 4th etc. contract guys up in 2020 btw.
