Snead is making a strong argument that Fisher just got in his way.
I've been wrong about many other things but I've liked and defended Snead 100% of the time.
I think eventually it will emerge that Snead is one of the elite GMs in the league.
As a fellow "from the beginning" Snead defender, here's the thing about finding players like Kelly.
If you look at the drafts where the Rams score big in the lower rounds, like virtually all teams that do that, there's a common element. Invariably that draft year was described before it even took place as unusually deep. That was true in spades of the 2018 draft. It was said long before the day of the draft that this was not a flashy draft year at the top but that the 2nd through 4th rounds were very rich. Dedicated draftniks were saying, teams will leave the 4th round this year with starters. Certain positions were even listed as unusually deep.
Whenever you see drafts described as deep that way, you see good drafting teams scoring very flashy picks in the later rounds.
You can only find players if players are there.
But when they ARE there you have to make sure you pick em.
Another thing about previous Rams drafts. I've heard it argued that naturally they drafted well from 2012-2016, they had a lot of high picks.
EXCEPT.
All teams have had high picks at one point or another, but not many teams have EVER done the equivalent of this: picked a defensive rookie of the year who then went on to be a defensive player of the year, picks an offensive rookie of the year who then went on to become a defensive player of the year, and then picked a qb who was in the pro bowl in his second year.
I;ve said it before but that's like the Steelers landing Greene, Bradshaw, and Harris with high picks within 4 years.
(Not that Goff is Bradshaw yet).
There are people who forever get hung up on Austin and Robinson. I think that is FAR overbalanced by Donald, Gurley, and Goff. And that's not even talking about the 2nd rounders on down. Heck the 2012-and-after Rams have one of the best records in the 3rd round we have ever seen. And that continues too.
It goes on and on.
