I know many fans will adhere to the mantra that its a violent game, full of physicality that requires our starters to get into that part of the game before the games count. But that's a fans game. In reality its a different world out there now. Its more based on a business model of "risk v reward". Our division is weak with most teams re-doing themselves. The Rams are set -barring injury-to easily win the division. The risk of playing Gurley and Goff, etc is enormous and far greater than the benefit of playing a few downs. Should either be hurt then its likely all over. Mannion and Brown won't get us to the playoffs.
Sure, there is an argument that they need real game "contact". But that argument is outweighed by the risk of losing one or both of these guys given how this division is laid out.
