the schedule a preseason game against a regular season opponent, ESPECIALLY the first game of the year opponent, is asinine.
They don't care what these games look like.
It's about one thing...money. They get more advertising and TV money for these games. The ticket revenue is gravy. The NFL puts in all these rules to protect players but it isn't coming out of the owners pocket books...it's on players via fines. The owners do it to protect themselves from lawsuits. Funny...the players have to pay to protect the owners.
BTW, when are defensive player contracts going to escalate to compensate for the risk they take in bearing substantially all the fines for these hits? If I'm the Union, I try to get allowable clauses in the players contract to compensate for bearing all the risk.
