It pleases me to read that they’re emphasizing dime sets in practice since I predicted it in a thread a while ago.

Just makes sense if our coaches anticipate playing with leads often this year. Shields just might be a big part of this passing D this year.

I don't think the coaches are emphasizing dime sets only because they anticipate playing with leads, I believe they're also doing it because they recognize the overwhelming mismatch that Donald, Suh, and Brockers will be.

In 2009, Suh's college team Nebraska operated out of a base dime defense because he was such a huge matchup advantage. Here's an article on it:

On Oct. 8, 2009, my understanding of football changed.... On the second Thursday of October, I watched Nebraska operate out of a base dime defense. Its starting lineup listed two defensive ends, two defensive tackles, a middle linebacker, two cornerbacks, and four safeties.

I expect to see some base dime sets even when there isn't a lead. Such as, the three stud DL/one rush OLB/one MLB/six DBs and the three DL/two MLBs/six DBs.

This team should be able to generate a good rush without blitzing.

That’s a very good catch, dz.

Makes a ton of sense the more I think about it.
