If they can't get a deal done it is all about AD agent wanting to not just set a record but destroy a record of earnings. These are the same guy that held Bosa out over a rookie deal.
AD is the best defensive player in football and the Rams are offering to pay him as such.
Reasonable people get a deal done and the Rams are being reasonable.
If this whole thing goes south Rams may have to play hardball and withdraw offer.
They may have to see if AD really wants to play football or not.
While he is a great player if we sign him for 25M that will really hurt the team from a cap perspective. Signing him to that deal may not be what is best for the team. 21M is a killer to the cap as it is.
I love AD but at this point I would strongly consider pulling my offer and letting him decide if he wants to play football or not. If he wants to sit out I would let him and use the CBA to retain his rights for as long as possible which will save almost 10M per year when he is franchised. If he doesn't play he doesn't make any money. How much is he going to be worth after 3 years of sitting out?
Rams should be insulted that that AD agent doesn't recognize they do have leverage and will use it if things are not wrapped up soon. Perhaps his agent will only understand hardball tactics in the negotiation as the Rams have been very conciliatory up to this point.
AD needs to decide if he wants to be a Ram and if he wants to play football and if he wants to maximize his earnings. If he wants to do all 3 of those things he will sign a deal.
