I agree pretty much with all of this.
On your question about the affordability of 2 CBs both costing 8-9 M, it's a fair question but I think it resolves with them wanting to keep as many good players as they can for the next two years for SB runs. I think they start creating the future after 2019.
That's my reading of their plan anyway...
Having Talib at $8M for one year isn't cost prohibitive IMO. It's not like it's a long term commitment.
If they can get Saffold at $8M per year, I agree with you that that would be the preferred way to go. I haven't looked at salaries but if third contracts are that reasonable as you say, then that's great. I shared 43's concern that OG contracts are greatly increasing and now in the $12M range. (I hadn't had time to research those contracts or compare ages yet...)
At any rate regarding the OL, I share the belief that OL development and draft investment in 2019 is likely.
On OG contracts. It's true they're going up but that could just be 2nd contracts. Martin was 14 M, Zeitler was 12 M, Norwell was 12 M, Osemele was 11.7 M, Bitonio was 10 M. But those are all 2nd contract guys drafted in or after 2012.
3rd contracts are less rigid. There can be more range. Things like age or where the player wants to play become factors.
