Could be a rumor. But in light of the theory that Khalil Mack could try to wait out Donald's contract situation to become highest paid defender...I could definitely see an opt-out clause being on the table from Donald's perspective.
And I wouldn't be opposed to that (i.e. opt-out clause after 3 years). I think it could benefit the player as well as protect the organization and salary cap model.
