I guess we read it differently. No problem zn. To me "a number of different ways" meant PR. KR and "web back" with a little slot in there too but mostly RB. Jones said "Stephen reference a web back, kind of a dynamic mismatch, running back out of the backfield".
Yeah we read it differently, or a bit anyway. And he didn't say "a little slot" he just said slot ("Obviously, he played slot" ). And he mentions the Dunbar role. Dunbar had nearly as many targets as runs in his years there. So in some ways Dunbar was already doing Tavon 2015. Garrett also talks about how the Rams both ran him and threw to him.
"A little slot" was MY opinion. I said: "To me". I liked TA and hoped he would do better for us but he didn't other than that one year. Maybe a new team is just what he needs. We shall see.
My view is, whoever uses him as a weapon to both run and catch uses him productively. The problem last year is that they mostly just used him to run. That's not Tavon, it;s how he's used.
And remember Garrett is saying something different from you. I think he sees the 2014/2015 hybrid weapon.
Not like in 2016 when they used him more as a receiver and not like in 2017 where they pretty much dropped that part of his game.
IMO there's a reason he needs to be threatening the defense with both run and pass. It's because he can run or catch from anywhere in the formation. If you use him that way, then, it's not clear until the play develops which it will be with him. That portion of deception threatened defenses more.
And I might be wrong but I think Dallas sees it that way.
