Re: Rams have least salary cap space heading into NFL Draft

April 25, 2018 01:35PM
"Only the highest 51 player salaries for a team count against the Salary Cap in the offseason ..." [nflsalarycapguru.wordpress.com]

According to overthecap.com the Rams currently have 64 players under contract [overthecap.com] As noted only the top 51 count against the cap. Overthecap.com lists Kevin Peterson as the 51st player with a salary of $555,000. If the Rams sign anyone to a contract less than $555,000 there would be no effect on the cap; if they sign someone for more than $555,000 then Peterson would drop off the 'top 51' and the new guy would be added to the 'top 51'. The cap hit would be the difference in their salaries. (i.e. If the Rams signed Joe Player for $600,000 the Rams cap space would only drop by $45,000.)
