that Cooks will perform much better than the 23rd pick in the draft. In fact, somebody listed the last 15 #23 picks, and it was 15 out of 15 based on that list.
You get a top player at a very reasonable salary for 1 year is the worst case and a proven top player.
The Rams may sign him, but my understanding the way this works if he leaves, you still get a 3rd round pick back the following season.
I love the aggressive approach myself. It is a way to get top players for a lower salary and in the NFL - Not for Long league - you have to think NOW.
but what about this—will an edge rusher taken in round 3 perform as well as an edge rusher taken in round 1?
Sure, both have chance of busting, but the higher the round the lower the bust rate and the higher the round the higher the production, on average.
Yes, I know, I am speculating that Rams are in market for edge rusher....
But I agree, Cooks is a sure thing, but he's a wash between he and Watkins and we already invested a 2nd rounders (will get 3rd rounder back), so our 1st and 2nd rounders this year go for 2 players, one not on roster and we get a 2018 #4 back and a 2019 #3 plus a 6th, which is very little...adds up to 2 #3s...
so, there are lots of ways to look at it and we have hole at OLBer and ILBer
