If thats the case then its hard to digest not giving Watkins 16M and keeping our 1st rounder instead of giving Cooks 17M and giving away our 1st rounder.
Not too hard to digest Max. McVay clearly feels Cooks is a better WR (at least in his system) and was insterested in Cooks BEFORE Sammy. For whatever reason, Sammy wasn't excelling here. Only McVay knows why. (I think he couldn't grasp the playbook quick enough or fully understand it, was waaaay overrated based on potential and not actual production) I have a feeling we will see better numbers from Mr. Cooks than what we did from Sammy. Maybe not in the redzone but "overall" better numbers.
There was something a bit off with Watkins. The ceiling is so high, but he just doesn't live up to it. I saw him give up on routes too many times. Not sure what it is, but something is missing.
Its possible that McVay sees Cooks meshing in his offense better than Watkins and effectively will be more valuable to McVay.
