I'd rather they go elsewhere and hope a quality ILB, Edge Rusher or C is staring at them at #87. But depending on how the draft falls it is possible. If Penny is solidly considered a top 70 overall prospect, and seems to me he is, and he falls to them at 87 and some other guys at more obvious 'needs' aren't there, I would be on board with it.
Backup Rams' RBs (not counting Austin) only played 194 snaps last year, and 65 of those were in week 17 vs. SF. But when you do factor in Austin who really was more of a 3rd down RB- and I think is less than 50/50 to make the team- drafting Penny and giving him 15-17ish snaps per game as a rookie could happen.
