The Rams were clearly not happy with Watkins so I would go with their behind the scenes look at him.
Buffalo gave him up.
Rams picked him up. Goff clearly didn't trust him. McVay clearly didn't trust him. Rams made little effort in retaining him.
Rams pay up to get another receiver.

That is the Sammy Watkins story thus far. There is something that we don't know. It's not just the lack of stats. It's not just his perceived lack of effort in fighting for balls. It's the story that we can't read too. There is too many question marks and only one variable. It's Sammy. Whether he still has planting issues with his foot (past injuries), doesn't put in the work during an individual play, game or in the film room or maybe he just isn't as good as we want him to be there is something amiss.

Yeah they were so unhappy that McVay tried to the bitter end to keep him, but got outbid!

Buffalo gave up Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin too, how does that look?

Buffalo is your benchmark?? LOL

They tried to the last minute to keep him? I'm dying here. Sorry man, but if the Rams want someone they go get them. Nothing about the way the Rams are running things currently agree with that statement. Close the book bro.

Try doing some research the answer will resuscitate you!.

Yeah they got both Peters and Talib for bargains...I wonder why? eye rolling smiley
As a corporate investigator I've learned to close my eyes and plug my ears when it comes to words. That goes doubly when it's purpose is to be consumed by media and then translated to the public.

Dig deeper and look at the whole body of work. Look at the stuff said throughout the tenure. Look at the stuff said about the other players. Look at the actual facts. The only facts that cannot be manipulated was that he is not a Ram. He was not used like we all thought a number one would be used. Now build the real picture. I'm sure anyone would want Sammy Watkins. But considering how they used him do you really think they valued him enough to justify paying him anywhere close to what Sammy got? There is a direct link between their use and their dallar value on said use. Clearly they did not align so that is where the want versus need ended.

Sammy was not valued enough to justify a franchise tag. Sammy was subsequently replaced and they paid up handsomely to replace him. The research is in the facts. Words are a pacifier in this business.

Forget the media, that's not MY thing...Look at the tape!

Also look at this...

10 targets in the redzone 7 TD's.

That looks like misuse to ME.

But hey...maybe that's just ME.

Oh I agree with that. When watkins came into the league he made a huge dent around the LOS and underneath. That has changed over the last 2.5 years. I assumed that was because the league caught up to that. The Harvin's , Cobb's, Patterson's and Austin's nice were going buffalo. That was Watkins largely as well. Buffalo began pushing him downfield.

I'm beginning to believe that they think that Watkins cannot plant dynamically any longer. That may account for what appeared to be a lack of effort some times. That may be why he's been a more straight line guy. He's a good red zone guy. His hands are perfect for a turn a catch. With that said, you have to see that he's not what he was two years ago. Buffalo declined his 5th year. The Rams let him go. Maybe they know that he truly is that one trick pony that everyone talks about. Maybe they know that due to injuries there is not room for growth.

Not sure where any of that comes from, he came in the league avg 15.1 per catch, that's top level. With the Rams he avg 15.2 so no I don't see any adjustments being made to what he does.

For reference Antoine Brown avg 15.2 ypc.

His only issue has been his foot and staying on the field. Healthy with the Rams I saw no lingering effects of the foot injury.

But I did see him open a LOT! IF he had been playing with an experienced qb he could have doubled his output.

He still cut and accelerated with the same torque as before per MY eyes.

Watkins has never been a straight line guy and YOU essentially spoke to that in your assessment of him on smoke screens and underneath.

Here's the deal in a nutshell. SEVERAL teams offered Sammy much more than the Rams were willing to pay.

Its out there if you need verification.

But we'll soon see if their assessment of him was correct.

Best,
Laram
