the militant flavor of the Player's Union bosses rhetoric makes it clear that not only do they intend to go to the wall to keep what they have, they're going to demand much more.
The last CBA negotiation was driven by the owners's pre-planned lockout.
They were striving to take back things they had given. Which as you say usually means militant and aggressive tactics. Which last time, was all on the owners's side.
All the union is doing this time is girding up for precisely that kind of confrontation again. And the reason they're doing it is because they saw the owners's militancy and aggressiveness last time.
Pretending that kind of thing only goes to one side is just to ignore real history.
