Tagging Watkins for $16 million was a non starter.
For the $11 million for Joyner at least they got an elite level player. Watkins, as yet, has not been described as elite level anywhere that I’ve seen or heard.
The Joyner salary will sort itself out this year, one way or another. If he extends for a reasonable price, then fine. If not, he’s a goner and Snead will just have to find yet another quality secondary player. Something that he’s proven capable of for 6 years running. No worries.
Either way, that franchise tag has AD’s name on it until further notice.
