I do believe when they traded for Watkins, they intended him to be a core player.
They tried very hard until the end to keep him according to reports. This tells me he was as much of a core player as Kupp and Woods.
He got away.
JJ was an identified core player. They told us that.
He got away.
AD, Peters, and Joyner have not been signed long term. It's too early to speak on them.
But if the past is any indication, a couple of them will get away.
Let's hope for better.
Kinda depends on one’s definition of core player, dz.
IMO, a team doesn’t let a core player get away when healthy and in his prime.
Before that is allowed to happen, lesser valuable players would first be sacrificed.
Since that didn’t happen, by definition, Watkins was not considered a core player.
Pure logic.
Because the Rams let JJ and Watkins get away, therefore they were not core players.
Problem is, that's assuming they don't make mistakes.
JJ is the best example. Snead point blank said that retaining the secondary is their priority for the off season.
We know based on reports afterwards that Fisher had given the edict to keep JJ, thought it would be taken care of, and was mad when he came back from vacation and found out he got away.
JJ was a core player. healthy and in his prime. Yet, he got away.
Someone in Rams headquarters made a mistake.
The language they used with Watkins after the trade, all during the year, and immediately after the season indicated that Watkins was also a core player.
Maybe someone in Rams headquarters made a mistake.
43, there is a reason why many people now are troubled with the Rams inability to keep above average players.
Did you know that the last really good player they retained was Quinn?
