I do believe when they traded for Watkins, they intended him to be a core player.
They tried very hard until the end to keep him according to reports. This tells me he was as much of a core player as Kupp and Woods.

AD, Peters, and Joyner have not been signed long term. It's too early to speak on them.

IMO, a team doesn’t let a core player get away when healthy and in his prime.
Before that is allowed to happen, lesser valuable players would first be sacrificed.
Since that didn’t happen, by definition, Watkins was not considered a core player.

Because the Rams let JJ and Watkins get away, therefore they were not core players.
Problem is, that's assuming they don't make mistakes.
JJ is the best example. Snead point blank said that retaining the secondary is their priority for the off season.
We know based on reports afterwards that Fisher had given the edict to keep JJ, thought it would be taken care of, and was mad when he came back from vacation and found out he got away.
