I keep hearing some posters use terms like "best" for Watkins. But by any objective measurement, that simply doesn't hold water. He's been injury prone. He's been inconsistent. He comes to a good offense with a good QB and still can do no better than 4th on the team for receiving yards.
Where "best" comes to play in here I don't know.
I think I learned my lesson by always coming to Austin's side of things by refusing to look at his actual production and rather finding a whole series of "what if's" to say why his production never seems to match his amazing potential.
I feel like it's the same thing with Watkins. His potential never matches his production. And for some, it's never his fault.
At this point in his career, what you see is what you get. He is what he is. A good, not great, WO, with good, not great hands, average route running, very good speed, and nice size.
I've not heard a single retired player, GM, Coach, even announcer apply the term great or elite to Watkins.
And where he fits in the Rams hierarchy has been fairly well established.
