Interesting.
Listening to Vinny B. and Rich Hammond, neither think a huge contract is in the offing in FA for Watkins.
Reasons:
1) Signed on potential. Has not come close to the expected potential. As a 5th year player, "potential" has to be set aside.
2) He's not a dominant WR. He has the attributes to be one; but he has never achieved dominance and there's no sign that he ever will.
3) Haven't heard of any team salivating to roll up the Brinks truck to Watkins' front door.
4) He was the 4th leading receiver on the Rams after Woods, Kupp, and Gurley. You can't just overlook that and think you have the next Julio Jones.
They acknowledge that all it takes is one team who has fallen in love with the guy and will do anything to get him.
That said, they don't think that Watkins leaving the Rams ought to be a forgone conclusion.
The Rams really do want him, but they're not going to pay him a fortune.
They think that before he signs with anyone else, he'll give the Rams the number a team is offering and give them a chance to match because he recognizes that he's in a really good situation in LA. Stable QB situation. 2nd largest market. Desirable location. Good team on the rise. Offensive minded HC.
