If the Rams want to they can extend Donald without impacting their 2018 cap. Here's a way to to that: [ramsrule.com]

In a different thread ZN has suggested that the Rams would load up 2019 and 2020 more than I suggested in order to lessen the hit in 2021 and beyond so there's room for Goff, Gurley, etc. But the concept works wither way.
