Affording him means instead of 2 10+ M good players you have 1 20 M+ hall of famer.
To me that's a simple issue. You pay him.

He will make a lot of money this year and two more years if the Rams franchise him. Then he can get crazy money and a huge guarantee on the open market.
Also he held out last summer, missed the preseason and a game and then credited that rest for feeling good at the end of last season.. He still had a great year and is regarded as the best defensive player in football. He can do anything he wants (barring injury of course). Why sign when you can be the highest paid player in the game in a couple of years?
I hope I am wrong, but I just don't see him signing.
