To me part of the urgency to do Donald's extension is so that the overlap with an eventual Goff extension is minimal. Probably just in 2020 and 2021. You pay Donald
now so that all the guaranteed money is paid in 2018-2021. By that point he is 30 going on 31 years old and then year to year.
With Gurley I don't see them giving him a long-term deal and they don't need to. You pick up his $9.6M 5th year option for 2019 which he's absolutely earned. After 2019 assuming he is still an elite RB you franchise him for 2020. So yeah, in 2020 could those three be taking up major cap space? Yes. Beyond that, no. I would not give Gurley major money in 2021 (his 7th NFL season) or beyond. The number of elite RBs at that point in their careers is a pretty small list.
