Is there some reason why Sammy Watkins deserves something approaching double the money that Marquise Goodwin just received?
True, Watkins had more TDs. But Goodwin had way more catches and significantly more yards with a very good 17.5 yard average.
I'm not saying that the Rams should go that low.
But it sure provides further evidence that to even think about a $13 to $15mil per year contract for Watkins is ludicrous considering his production. I don't care how pretty he looks out there. Or even what his "potential" is. He's been in the league too long to pay him based on future "potential".
Forget Watkins going to the Niners. Could you imagine Goodwin and his agent's reaction if they were to give Watkins double what Goodwin just got?
In fact: how would you imagine Robert Woods would react if Watkins were to get some enormous amount above what he signed for a few months earlier? Especially considering that Woods was the Rams leading WR and Watkins a distant 3rd?
